Sugary Drinks Lead To Over 184,000 Deaths Per Year Worldwide

According to a new study, sugary drinks lead to 184,000 deaths worldwide including at least 25,000 in the United States. Most of these deaths are due to type 2 diabetes and the related complications.

The report performed by researchers at Tufts University and published in the journal Circulation, directly contributes these deaths to the consumption of soda, fruit juices, fruit drinks, sports/energy drinks and sweet tea.

The researchers at Tufts determined that out of the 184,000 deaths, 133,000 deaths are from type 2 diabetes, 45,000 are from cardiovascular disease and 6,450 deaths from cancer.

The four countries at the top of the list include Mexico, South Africa, Morocco and the United States. This shows that this is an epidemic touching all corners of the globe.
